Meet the Winemaker: Domaine Leroy
“Lalou Bize-Leroy stands virtually alone at the top of Burgundy's quality hierarchy.” RP
On November 5th at 7pm, New York Vintners invites you to join Domaine Leroy for incredible night of Burgundy. Guests will be joined by two of Domaine Leroy’s representatives: Eric Espuny and Giles Desprez. Both Espury and Desprez have accomplished careers as wine directors and sommeliers at some the world’s most prestigious restaurants. Their focus now surrounds the wines of Domaine Leroy and they will act as our guides through the region of Burgundy, explaining the complexities of the region and further giving voice to Leroy’s methods of production. The resulting wines can only be described as breathtaking. This is a unique opportunity to taste the wines of one of the world's truly legendary estates.
Domaine Leroy Tasting
Domaine Leroy is the creation of one of the most determined, dynamic, and passionate Burgundians, Madame Lalou Bize-Leroy. For many years, as part owner and co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, she created her own Domaine in 1988, with purchases of holdings in Richebourg, Chambertin, and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The Domaine currently owns 22 hectares of Burgundy's greatest terroirs. She rapidly pioneered a method for cultivating her vineyards organically and bio-dynamically. She championed low yields and a ruthless pursuit of the highest quality. American wine lovers were the first to recognize and embrace her wines and now the rest of the world’s wine lovers follow. Clive Coates MW in The Wines of Burgundy states that the meticulous care produces wines that “are breathtakingly intense, pure and concentrated.”
Domaine Leroy takes as much pride in the village-level and premier cru wines as their Grand Cru. In some vintages, Leroy’s Bourgogne Rouge can match the level achieved by many producers' top premier cru wines. Regardless of vineyard site each wine they release possesses elegance and balance consumers can depend upon. Their wines are made to develop over time and as you will see as you taste through the vintages, patience is duly rewarded with Domaine Leroy.
