The Pope's Favorite Wine?

We sent this offer out a couple weeks on Tenuta Alfredosa and it was a SMASH hit. We sold out IMMEDIATELY. Well - to be fair - that's not completely insane considering only 200 bottles of the older vintages come to The Land Of Opportunity. THE GOOD NEWS is that we were able to grab 5 more case of 2015 which is UNQUESTIONABLY the best vintage of this BEAST of a wine and one that is just starting to drink well today and will CERTAINLY age and improve for the next 20 years. This very special gem from our booted friends in Italy that sits next to the icons of Paolo Bea and Caprai, which is exclusively poured by top sommeliers at restaurants and even poured in the Vatican. How cool is that?

Tenuta Alfredosa is a MINISCULE winery in Umbria, Italy owned by Raffaella Albanese that produces a Montefalco Rosso that is about 70% Sangiovese with 20% Sagrantino and a dusting of Merlot. The property is a TINY 1.2 hectares and they make only about 1,500 bottles PER YEAR OF WHICH ONLY around 200 come to the United States solely for fancy restaurants. In fact, we discovered this wine from a connection from Franco Maria Ricci, the president of the Italian Sommelier Association. The same Ricci who gave the Pope, yes the Pope an honorary sommelier degree (cool picture below). If you love great structured Italian wines (similar to say Sassicaia or Flaccianello) this is definitely worth a look.
