Altesino
Altesino has given an extra push to Brunello through the introduction of the concept of the Cru. Montosoli is a five hectare vineyard situated to the northeast of Montalcino at an altitude of 350-400 metres. The grapes from this vineyard were fermented and aged separately for the first time after the 1975 harvest. The grapes that grow on this land produce a very elegant wine of great complexity and elegance due to the vineyard’s particular position, unique microclimate and the composition of its soil (marly limestone and siliceous limestone representing the Alberese era, with lithoid components dating from the same period). Montosoli Brunello di Montalcino is a deep ruby red, turning a deep orangey red after ageing. Its bouquet has outstanding character including black cherry, blackberries, raspberries, violets, liquorice and vanilla with a slight accent of pink pepper. In the mouth this very noble wine offers a dry, warm, velvety taste, rich substance and noble pedigree, ending with a warm note that lingers on persuasively. Altesino has gained important international recognition for its Cru Montosoli since ‘Wine Spectator’ called it Italy’s second most representative vineyard. Brunello Montosoli was produced in the years 1975, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003 and will be produced from the 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008 harvests.
