Grenache, Mouvedre, Cinsault: Bonneau is extremely traditional. When the fermentation in cement tanks is finished the wine gets transfered into old Burgundian barrels. Here it stays until Bonneau finds it ready to be bottled - maybe after 6, 8 or 10 years.

"A successful effort, Redortier’s 2003 Gigondas exhibits a distinctive, complex bouquet of lavender, sweet and sour cherries, plums, and damp earth. With good size, a medium-bodied texture, and ripe, attractive, pure, elegant flavors, it will drink well for a decade."

"The special selection for American importer Peter Weygandt, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, ratchets up the level of succulence, juiciness, and opulence. It is a fabulous, compelling effort of multiple dimensions. Classic aromas and flavors of licorice, kirsch liqueur, balsam wood, and lavender are found in this enormously full-bodied wine along with unreal concentration and perfect balance. This astonishing effort should drink well for 20+ years."

"The 2005 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone is a blockbuster. This blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Cinsault, and 15% Syrah has a dark ruby/purple color and a beautifully structured style with notes of black truffle, licorice, black currant, and sweet cherry intermixed with some crushed rock and flowers. The wine is beautifully broad, savory, and exceptionally well-delineated and focused. This is a magnificent wine that should be at its best between 2010 and 2025."

"A new cuvee, and a spectacular one, is the 100% old vine Grenache cuvee, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Grenaches de Pierre. This wine boasts a dark ruby, slightly purple-tinged color and a glorious nose of sweet raspberries, jammy black cherries, licorice as well as smoke and earth. It has sensational texture in a juicy, succulent full-bodied style, but with refreshing acidity and sweet but elevated tannin. This is a knock-out wine that should be at its best between 2009 and 2020+."

Grenache: Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 96-98 points "The 2005 Reserve, which comes from ancient 101-year-old Grenache vines planted in pure sand, has an inky/purple color as well, an extraordinary nose of graphite (even though there is no new oak used, only ancient foudres), fabulous purity of blackberry, cherry, and cassis fruit with hints of licorice, smoke, and a touch of resin and spice. Still uncertain about the finalized name because this is the 100th anniversary of the estate, the “Reserve” could have some other name such as “Hommage.” However, it will be the only other Chateauneuf du Pape other than the bottling just reviewed. This is a fabulous wine that certainly will be one of the monuments of the vintage, and a wine capable of lasting 25-35 years. It will also require some patience from purchasers – needing 4-5 years of bottle age."

"The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dense purple color as well as an expressive bouquet of black currants, licorice, kirsch, meat juices, and hints of spice box as well as lavender. Full-bodied, opulent, rich, and stunningly concentrated, it is one of the vintage’s finest efforts. This beauty should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 15+ years."

Garnacha, Carinena, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon: JM, Wine Advocate 94 pts
"The 2004 Salanques is the second wine of Mas Doix made from barrels not making the cut for Costers de Vinas Viejas. It is 65% Garnacha, 20% Carinena, and equal parts Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon aged 14 months in French oak. Inky purple, the wine has a lovely perfume of mineral, truffle, pencil lead, kirsch, black currant, and blueberry. Ripe and full-bodied, the wine has a velvety texture, superb depth, and gobs of flavor. Drink this pleasure-packed wine over the next 8-10 years."

"Really distinctive, with a gutsy, chewy frame supporting clove, blood orange, coffee, brick dust, macerated currant fruit, warm fig and hoisin sauce notes. The long, grippy finish has lots of mesquite, braised chestnut and spice notes. A classic throwback. Best from 2010 through 2030. 500 cases made."
